A Perfect Week to Our Final Chapter In Pond Inlet <3

It feels like it was just yesterday that we were packing our suitcases, full of dried goods and meat in order to leave for Pond Inlet. Now here we are in our final week before we go back and leave the place that we have come to know as home. This was a week filled with a ton of energy, excitement, tears of joy and the occasional stressful situation. Never the less it was an unforgettable week. Monday till Friday […]

12 Pizzas Later..

We had a great time teaching in the grade 10-12 science classes this past week. The students were very receptive and interested in the topics we were teaching and it generated lots of good discussions. We taught classes on smoking, marijuana, alcohol, sexually transmitted infections, contraceptives, consent and suicide. The students were very receptive and interested in gaining more information about ways to quit smoking and where to seek help. We also got to attend a school-wide pep rally for […]

INCREDIBLE Week 4

What an incredible and busy week in Pond! We were back teaching in the junior high classes this week and we taught lessons on consent, healthy relationships and self-esteem. The self-esteem lesson was one of our favorites because we got all of our classes to make warm and fuzzies. Warm and fuzzies are when each person makes an envelope and the rest of the class writes compliments or positive messages to each other. It is always so nice to see […]

SLEEPOVER!

On Friday evening we had the opportunity to help out one of the elementary school teachers, Sarah, with the first ever grade 6 sleepover, although very little sleeping actually occurred. We arrived just before dinner because we […]

Our First Full Week of Teaching

Greetings family and friends! It’s hard to believe an entire week has gone by since we first arrived. However, we have been keeping busy with teaching and afterschool activities. On Thursdays afterschool we run sports from 3:15-5pm which has turned out to be a lot of fun and brings out a ton of students. Basketball is huge here, the students played it the entire time without showing any interest to switch the game. On Fridays we run crafts afterschool with […]

Off to a Great Start!

Hello again! The big day we were waiting for was finally here! We began our day off pretty early in order to make sure our suitcases were all within the proper weight requirements and of course for some last minute packing. We were both worried whether or not the meat that we had bought the previous day would go bad as we only had a few icepacks. Lucky for us we had Kelly and Jeff who came up with a […]

The Start to a Northern Adventure!

Hey there family and friends, Tomorrow is the big day that we are leaving for our Northern adventure to Pond Inlet, Nunavut! In preparation for the trip we picked up a ton of food and supplies as it can be quite expensive up north (hopefully our suitcases aren’t too overweight!) A big shout out to Kelly and Jeff for helping us buy our groceries, pack the food, and teaching us some quick cooking tricks along the way. So thanks you […]
