Weeeeeeeeek 4

Hello dedicated blog followers, This week we continued to teach about identifying and dealing with our emotions in the younger grades. This involved some fun games such as Simon Says (emotions version) and Charades. We also started our sexual health unit with the older grades, teaching about healthy relationships, consent, and puberty. So far the kids have been particularly engaged in the sexual health topics and are overflowing with curiosity! We got to head out to spring camp again this […]

Fantastic Four!

Hello again! It’s hard to believe that we are already in our fourth week of teaching! This week has flown by, especially since Monday was a holiday. Never in a million years did we think we would ever wish for a weekend to be shorter! This past weekend we had another opportunity to show off our developing floor hockey skills. Emma sustained some minor ankle injuries from trying to play with her feet (she still has no idea how to […]

Week 3 Complete!

HELLLLLLOOOOOOOOOO, It has been another whirlwind week here in Fort Providence, both inside and outside of the classroom! This week with the older students we focused on stress management and substance abuse. The students really loved doing our ‘circle of control’ activity to learn about how we can all manage the stress in our own lives. For the younger students, we continued to teach about bullying and introduced healthy relationships and peer pressure. In the coming weeks, we will be […]

Baseball Burns and Hockey Bruises…

And just like that we’re back again after another busy week! At the beginning of this week it seemed like maybe summer had finally arrived in Webequie. Just as we all got our hopes up it snowed again, only to hit 20 degrees and sunshine by Friday and today (Saturday)! We are having wonderful May-long weather today and hopefully tomorrow too! We were able to cover a wide range of topics in our classes from grades K4-10. We covered more […]

Last Friday, students from grades 7 to 9 at Nasivvik participated in a Heritage Fair at the school. The students worked for several weeks to complete projects on various topics such as sports, history, local animals and Inuit […]

Week 2 with Jonah and Kevin (Nadia)

Hi again! It’s been another busy and INCREDIBLE week here in Fort Providence! In the classroom this past week, we focused on teaching bullying, stress management, and introductions to substance abuse/addiction. We were also lucky enough to join the grade 2/3s in their spring camp on Thursday. Each week, one grade goes out onto the land for the entire week, and participates in unique cultural learning experiences. During our time at spring camp we collected Labrador tea, picked wild berries, […]

WEEK TWO = DONE

hey homies! Today marks exactly 2 weeks since we touched down in the beautiful community of Salluit!! Last week was jam-packed with lessons on bullying, self care and healthy relationships. Although the grade sixes still haven’t quite grasped the concept of a crumpled paper heart (refer to last blog post), we are definitely seeing improvements in other areas! On Friday, we hosted our first extra curricular event: RUN CLUB! Two students showed up, but the four of us had a blast […]

Time Flies EVER Fast – Week 2 Done!

Hello again from north Ontar-i-o, In the classrooms this week we focused on personal hygiene, nutrition, and physical activity with grades K4-6. The kids loved our games of hygiene and sports dictionary as they got a chance to show us their drawing skills and laugh at our lack of drawing skills. Everyone was fascinated by the giant set of fake teeth that one of the teachers at SJMEC lent us for our toothbrushing lessons and couldn’t wait to get their […]
