The Pancake King of Fort Good Hope

Welcome back to our blog and Happy Mother’s Day! This morning we started bright and early making pancakes for the Mother’s Day breakfast at the community band hall. John is apparently really good at making pancakes (or as good as one can be at making pancakes…) and so he insisted on being called the Pancake King. Unfortunately some of the flippers were melting on the hot griddle so we were using large metal knives to flip the pancakes. We also got the […]

Week One = FUN (and done!)

Hello and welcome back to our blog!!! The last four days have been so busy with new and exciting events that it feels like time is flying by here. We CANNOT believe it is already Day 10. On Friday we attended the school and community picnic we mentioned in our last post and needless to say we left feeling stuffed. We were so grateful to be able to try so many local foods that were new to us, such us […]

Week One = Success!!

Sal Pals here!! After a busy week of prep, exploring and getting to know as much as we can about Salluit we are ready to update you all. We began our week with some very fun recess introductions with the students, this involved lots of sunglasses trading and age-guessing (we got everything from 12 to 29)! We also had the chance to meet with the principals at both schools and chat with a few community members about beautiful Salluit. We […]

Our Last Sunset and Our First Lesson

Hello, and welcome back to our blog! Today is officially our second Monday in Pond Inlet, NU, and let us tell you- this past week has been full of firsts! We started our week the same way all good things start- with a walk. We made it to a lookout, with the mountains in front of us and the community behind us, and it was amazing to see all of Pond Inlet from a different perspective. Our walk also brought […]

Gym, Gym and MORE GYM!

Hello again! Today was our last day joining in on gym classes and we were successful in meeting each class – at least twice! We are starting to get a hang of everyone’s names but admit we still have a long way to go 🙂 This morning we met with more members of the community to talk more about the culture and community in Webequie. We are learning so much through these conversations and hope to hear more throughout our […]

Slapshotz & Pizza Parties

Jamie and Sarah here again! We are just getting back from the school where we spent most of the day joining in on gym classes. We met so many more wonderful students who are FULL of energy and are amazing at basically every sport and gym activity. The grade 1s, 3s, and 4s chased us down in freeze tag, zombie tag, and duck duck goose and the grade 7/8s dusted us (mostly Sarah) in floor hockey. With the grade two’s […]
