12 Pizzas Later..

We had a great time teaching in the grade 10-12 science classes this past week. The students were very receptive and interested in the topics we were teaching and it generated lots of good discussions. We taught classes on smoking, marijuana, alcohol, sexually transmitted infections, contraceptives, consent and suicide. The students were very receptive and interested in gaining more information about ways to quit smoking and where to seek help. We also got to attend a school-wide pep rally for […]

That’s a Wrap!

We could not have asked for a better last week here in Webequie! How the time has flown by. After a fun last weekend, we were excited to get back into the classrooms and back with the kids. For our final week, we focused on mental health, anger and stress management, self-esteem, leadership and teamwork, and finished off with goal setting. We were blessed with beautiful weather earlier in the week and often went outside for some of our final classes […]

More Than Half Way Done

Happy Tuesday everyone! Our holiday Monday brought us 15cm of snow along with some quiet time indoors. The Pickle Lake weather always keeps us guessing seeing how we got some nice sunburns two days prior during a long day of fishing. Feeling very deprived of the kids we headed to Crolancia on Tuesday to start the teaching week. Active living would be the main focus of the week for the Kindergarten class as well as the 1/2/3 class. The 4/5/6 […]

Only 1 more week?!

We can’t believe we are about to start our last week here! This past week has been a blast. After a snowy Victoria Day Monday spent indoors, we were ready to get back in the classrooms. On Tuesday we continued with substance abuse and smoking lessons with the grade 6/7’s, and focused on sexual health with the grade 8’s. That evening, we had dinner with past QHO Co-Director, Northern PD and Webequie PE, Fabi! She has so many great ideas- we […]

INCREDIBLE Week 4

What an incredible and busy week in Pond! We were back teaching in the junior high classes this week and we taught lessons on consent, healthy relationships and self-esteem. The self-esteem lesson was one of our favorites because we got all of our classes to make warm and fuzzies. Warm and fuzzies are when each person makes an envelope and the rest of the class writes compliments or positive messages to each other. It is always so nice to see […]

Wait what? Week 3 already?

Holy guacamole, it’s week three already?! This week, we were hard at work continuing our lessons on Physical Health and Mental Health, with a special focus on  substances use and abuse including cigarettes, drugs, inhalant and alcohol, as well a bullying! We started off the week with some great lessons on bullying in the primary classes. By now, we’ve become quite well acquainted with the students at Ikusik, who simply love laughing with us and, of course, at us, both during our lessons and […]

First Week Teaching!

Hey everyone! Holy moly did we have a busy week! The week began with some very important introductions. We used our first Monday off to get acquainted with many important community members: from nurses at the nursing station, to Dean from the boys rehab centre (where we will be teaching every Friday), to the Mayor of Salluit! Everyone was very welcoming and had great advice and insight on how to tailor our health lessons to the specific needs of the […]
