And we’re off!!

Joined by the Web girls (Georgia & Lily), we left Kingston at noon today! The weather was great and the roads were clear as we took off in our snazzy KIA rental van. We will be spending tonight in Sudbury, tomorrow in Thunder Bay and will finally arrive in Pickle Lake/Mishkeegogamang on Tuesday. After many months of preparation, we are so excited to be on our way. We have had some great conversations with contacts at the schools we will […]

Nous sommes arrivées! (We have arrived!)

We made it to the beautiful town of Salluit! Our journey here went smoothly – despite almost missing our flight when we temporarily got off the plane at a pit-stop, AND then almost getting on the wrong plane at our lay-over airport, AND the Salluit wind having delayed flights for the last 3 days until our very flight yesterday afternoon – somehow, everything worked out perfectly in our favour, and we arrived safe and sound without any glitches. In the last […]

We Made it to Yellowknife!!

Hey family, friends, and other lovely humans of the internet following our adventure to Fort Providence, Northwest Territories! Our day began (not-so) bright and early this morning, at 4:30 AM. With lots of coffee, goodbyes and traveling, we arrived at Pearson International Airport just in time for our 7:00 AM flight to the Calgary Airport! Catching up on sleep (Jasmine) and movies (Christine) on the flight, both of us were very eager to arrive in the Prairies, bringing us one step closer to our destination! After […]

Signing Off & Headed Home ! (*cue tears*)

Hello Readers, We have much to catch up on as initiative has finally come to a close. The Fort Providence program for 2015 is sadly over. Let’s recap our past week and a half and share some wonderful photos from our time here. Firstly, last week our teaching focus was sexual health and puberty in all grades. Not to mention the people who have helped make all of this possible. To begin we would like to thank our peer directors Erin, Erinn, and Kelsey for putting in countless hours into making all of this possible and paying attention to those little details. For […]

A Perfect Week to Our Final Chapter In Pond Inlet <3

It feels like it was just yesterday that we were packing our suitcases, full of dried goods and meat in order to leave for Pond Inlet. Now here we are in our final week before we go back and leave the place that we have come to know as home. This was a week filled with a ton of energy, excitement, tears of joy and the occasional stressful situation. Never the less it was an unforgettable week. Monday till Friday […]

As an unforgettable Crolancia student might say “…I think we’re done!”

Our final week was unbelievable! We were able to join a cultural day with the Native Studies classes at Crolancia on Monday afternoon. We learned how to distinguish the tracks of different small game as well as the Ojibway words for the animals. The students also caught a ton of fish! The next day was our final day at Missabay and we were able to join the grade 2 and 3 classes on a cultural day outing. Tommy shared stories […]

Adventure is out there, and we’ve found it in Pickle Lake!

Hello everyone!! Another week, another adventure! On Monday we were at Missabay teaching physical activity, healthy relationships, and teaching soccer skills at the request of one of the teachers. After school we headed to the rec center for several hours of fun! What started as a session of bubbles and soccer in the parking lot quickly transformed into hours of hockey and crafts inside! We really enjoyed spending time with the kids outside of the classroom…and they really enjoyed playing […]
